The TS500 Riser card allows the installation of
3rd-Party PCI cards in the TS500. The NCD product code for the TS500
Riser card is
TS5-RISER.
Note: The TS500 Riser card is a different
riser card than the one used in the TS400/450 products. Only PCI
cards that are compatible with 3 volts devices can be used with
the TS500.
Currently the TS500 (with Riser card and ThinSTAR
Operating System v2.31) supports either a modem or a serial card.
TS500 Modem Solution
The US Robotics modem card (part number 3CP5610A)
has been successfully tested with the TS500 using the TS500 Riser
card. For additional information concerning the US Robotics modem
card, see the US Robotics
website.
TS500 Additional Serial Ports Solution
The TS500 comes standard with two serial ports;
however, two additional serial ports can be added to the TS500 by
using the TS500 Riser card and the SIIG Low Profile PCI-2S serial
card (part number
LP-P20011). This card comes with a Y-cable that connects to the
serial card port and then splits into two cables, each of which
has a DB9 serial connector. The card supports a maximum rate of
115K baud. See the SIIG website
for more information.
Note: The backplate on this serial port card
does not allow the card to fit in the TS500 mechanical package.
Therefore, the backplate must be removed from the serial card before
the card can be installed in the ThinSTAR 500. Detaching the the
serial card is a simple matter of removing two screws.
