Access to Server-based Computing

The ThinSTAR Voyager by Neoware lends its flexibility to the server-based computing environment. The Voyager provides access to information on Windows and Web servers over standard or wireless networks. And its long battery life frees users from the limitations of physical connections.

With both local ICA and RDP clients, users have access to high performance servers, allowing applications to execute faster than on normal desktop devices. Keystrokes, mouse clicks and screen updates are transmitted between server and tablet in a highly optimized format that does not degrade the overall network performance.

Server-based computing reduces the cost and complexity of application deployment and administration, since all applications are installed, updated and maintained on central servers rather than on distributed devices. In addition, server-based computing provides comprehensive application access. User files are readily available, up-to-date, and secure. There is never a need to worry about multiple versions of distributed data files.

Local Web Browser

The Voyager supports a local Microsoft® Internet Explorer browser for accessing
web-based applications. And standard web protocols available in the browser make custom business web applications likewise available. Users will also appreciate the overall improvement in response time provided when running a browser locally.

Flexible Ergonomics

With its wide range of viewing angles, the Voyager can accommodate a fixed mounting position and yet meet the needs of a wide range of users. With Active Matrix color technology, the device may be used in a wide variety of lighting conditions. The user can also adjust the back light setting to maximize battery life. The Voyager can be supported with a single hand. Its ergonomic design - featuring a swing-away handle - makes the device easy and safe to carry between tasks. For convenient access, the retractable stand allows the Voyager to sit upright on a desk. The user can size and customize the onscreen keyboard so as to avoid covering a specific application’s display area and can quickly remove and restore the onscreen keyboard with a single stylus click on the desktop. The tablet can also accomodate an optional USB keyboard.

Character Recognition

The Voyager also supports text input with an advanced handwriting recognition system. The device instantly converts printed or cursive characters into text and places them at the current text cursor location. As part of the recognition process, the Voyager uses an expandable dictionary to validate words prior to application acceptance. The Voyager need not be trained on user-specific characteristics, but is available immediately.

Wireless Connections

The Voyager supports third-party 802.11b wireless PCMCIA cards - hence providing freedom to users formerly tied to stationary desktops.

Stand-alone Mode

The Voyager also supports a stand-alone mode for accessing local Microsoft Windows CE applications, such as Pocket Word. Using ActiveSync, other Windows CE applications may be downloaded to and executed on the tablet.

Usability, Today and Tomorrow

The Voyager may be updated quickly and simply over any TCP/IP network. Its local program image is reloaded as needed with new releases of software. With its large memory capacity, the Voyager has access to on-going updates, including enhancements to the local Internet Explorer, Microsoft Terminal Services Client, and the Citrix ICA client.
